About Jun Matsumura
Born in 1986 in Chiba, Japan, Jun Matsumura lives and works in Saitama. Jun graduated from the Tajimi City Pottery Design and Technical Center in 2015 and from Kanazawa Utatsuyama Kogei Kobo in 2018. Growing up within Japanese philosophy and subcultures continues to shape his approach. His practice is grounded in Kogei, the tradition of Japanese arts and crafts. He works primarily in porcelain, a material he sees as reflecting the fragility of contemporary culture. Matsumura creates both functional objects, especially tea ware, and sculptural forms. His work balances refinement with experimentation. Though traditionally trained, he incorporates wheel throwing, carving, 3D modeling, and slipcasting. His work has been shown in major exhibitions and art fairs internationally.
