Alex Chouinard-McLellan
I came into the mentorship craving a protected time and space to nurture the development of my own work; as an emerging artist who works full-time as a studio tech, I am constantly balancing showing up in the studio for others and showing up in the studio for myself. I have so appreciated my cohort and the exposure to different ways of working in clay- both as a material and within the field - they have offered me. Julie's insights and feedback have prompted me to reflect on how I consider composition and communicate about my work. Working toward a group deadline has been a valuable experience in calibrating time, expectations and committing to the bit. It has been so fulfilling to be in pursuit of a particular, bodily surface and find it where I didn't expect to.
