Artist's Statement
I retired from a career as an Engineer in the Canadian Forces in 2003 to enter the Crafts and Design program at Sheridan College, majoring in ceramics. During my studies, I also apprenticed with Tim Smith, owner of Gleason Brook Pottery (Wiarton, Ontario). Upon graduating in 2006, I returned to Kingston to establish Anglin Bay Pottery, focusing on high-fired porcelain and stoneware pottery. I am a member of the NGB Studio collective, a vibrant community of artists and artisans. I am currently reading a Masters in Art History at Queens University.

In my practice as a potter, I create contemporary artworks in clay as well as a line of ceramics in the tradition of functional production pottery. My work incorporates aspects of figurative sculpture, medieval pottery, and traditional glazing techniques from China, Korea and Japan. I use these glazes as their tones are evocative of the soil and the earth; the natural environment is one of my primary sources of inspiration. Motifs of fish, flowers and leaves are also recurring themes that in my work. After spending 20 years in civil engineering where soil is investigated for its bearing capacity, grading, and plasticity, I am now considering the earth's materials from another perspective. Working with clay offers an opportunity to think of the organic nature of our world and its inherent fragility.
