Karl Burnett is an emerging artist from Tortola, British Virgin Islands. A self-taught Caribbean craftsman, Karl began selling pottery from his truck. He noticed people liked watching him at the potter’s wheel, and so he began teaching. Karl uses local materials in his clay and glazes, and he has hand-cast a large woodfire kiln. In 2014, he began working to build his Pottery Garden Studio and Gallery; just when he was set to open in 2017, Hurricane Irma devastated the Islands. Like many others, Karl had to rebuild, and with the help of his community, he continues to find new ways to bring an earthmade experience to the BVI’s. Join us for a visit to Karl’s studio and gallery on Josiah’s Bay steps from the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea.
