Fusion AwardS PROGRAM 2022
Honouring diversity, equity and inclusion, FUSION’s Awards and Scholarships program encourages applications from people of all cultures, regions across Ontario, racialized communities, abilities and diverse identities. The Awards program is a benefit of FUSION membership. Scholarships are open to all clay and glass artists.
This year, FUSION is launching new awards to recognize Indigenous clay and glass artists as well as Arts Educators and Administrators who contribute to the clay and glass community through teaching and arts management.
This year also marks the first time an award to honour the life of Mary Lou Gilchrist will be presented in recognition of her commitment to clay and glass and her support of craft as a long-time volunteer and collector.
2022 FUSION Awards and Scholarships
The Awards Program is a benefit of FUSION membership and is open to residents of Ontario. To update your membership, please click here. Scholarships are open to all Ontario residents. | The Awards and Scholarships are juried by a peer assessment committee. The jury will have the final decision as to how awards and scholarships are dispersed. In all cases, the decisions of the awards committee are final. The committee reserves the right not to give an award if, in its judgement, there are no suitable candidates. IMPORTANT Please open the link and follow the guidelines associated with each individual award as they require different materials and statements. Photo requirements are 300 dpi or higher, 4" x 6 " minimum, rectangular format. Please submit CVs, Artist Statements and support letters in Microsoft word .doc or Adobe .pdf files. |

The Mary Lou Gilchrist Award for Clay and Glass Artists $2000Open to clay and glass artists, this new award is offered by the family of Mary Lou Gilchrist to honour her lifetime support of craft. The award is created to help artists in their first ten years of practice and can cover costs associated with establishing or expanding a studio, purchasing materials and equipment, creating excellent images, paying exhibition costs and/or developing a business plan. Recognizing excellence as a new generation artist, this award celebrates skill, originality and execution. The jury also requests a short statement on plans for the 2022-2023 year and how you will continue to grow as a new generation artist. Applications must include:

FUSION Award for Clay or Glass Artists $1000This award is open to clay and glass artists with ten or more years of experience. This award honours artists who bring varied life experiences and skill development to their craft. Whether you graduated from an established academic program or learned through classes and workshops, this award honours all who have dedicated time to developing as a clay or glass artist. All work submitted must show skill, originality and execution. Applications must include:

FUSION Award for Production Artists $500Honouring members of FUSION who are functional makers, this award recognizes production potters or glass artists who create functional work. Artists with 5 or more years of experience are invited to apply. This award is funded by the proceeds raised from the Mug Sale at FUSION's annual conference. Applications must include:

Click here to apply for this award | FUSION Volunteer of the Year Award $250Each year, individuals who have shown outstanding service to FUSION are recognized at the FUSION Annual Conference and AGM. The Award consists of a certificate and honorarium. Nominees for the award may be proposed by FUSION current and past board members, guild executives or individual members. Nomination applications must include: A letter describing their rationale for proposing a volunteer for the award. Maximum length for nominations is two pages. John and Barbara Mather AwardDeadline for nominations to Craft Ontario: June 14, 2022.
